About the Role

Responsible for investigating and analyzing structural failures, and other incidents to determine the root causes and provide expert opinions. Performs analysis of building materials for use in construction. Determines and documents the cause of structural failures, damages, and defects through site investigations. This position involves field investigations, data collection, analysis, and the preparation of detailed reports for legal and insurance purposes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Other duties may be assigned.
• Forensic Investigations
• Conduct on-site investigations of structural failures, and other incidents.
• Gather and analyze relevant evidence, including site conditions, materials, and structural components.
• Data Collection and Analysis
• Collect and analyze data using various tools and techniques to reconstruct events leading to structural failures.
• Utilize engineering principles and expertise to identify the root causes of incidents.
• Documentation and Reporting
• Prepare detailed forensic engineering reports documenting findings, analyses, and conclusions.
• Provide or give support to those who give expert testimony in legal proceedings, if required.
• Code Compliance and Standards
• Evaluate structures for compliance with building bodes, industry standards, and regulations.
• Stay informed about changes in relevant codes and standards.
• Risk Assessment
• Assess risks associated with structural designs and existing structures to prevent future incidents.
• Make recommendations for improvements to enhance safety and structural integrity.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Structural Engineering.

• Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in Florida is preferred.

• Five years of forensic engineering or a related field is preferred.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience providing expert testimony in legal proceedings is a plus.

• Driver’s License required. • Willingness to travel is approximately 50%.
